July 2024 – The result of successive initiatives aimed at discussing topics related to the ESG universe, CNN Sustainability will be added to CNN Brasil’s schedule on July 27, Saturday, with the support of Ambipar, a leader in environmental management.
Ambipar specializes in crisis management and emergency response involving accidents with chemical products and pollutants that affect health, the environment and property.
The series gives voice to the greatest experts on the subject, here and abroad, and presents solutions adopted in different cities around the world to accelerate the necessary transformations on the planet, with awareness and social responsibility.
The partnership between CNN Brasil’s content area and Ambipar took place in May at CNN Lab.
“Our role with CNN Lab is to offer the market business opportunities that go beyond traditional media. In this case, we offered Ambipar a content project that highlights topics related to sustainability, which is already a priority for many CNN Brasil initiatives,” says CNN Brasil Marketing Director Mariana Cantarelli.
The show is hosted by anchor Márcio Gomes, with regular participation by Pedro Côrtes, the first climate and environmental analyst hired under this title by a TV channel in Brazil. The title highlights CNN Brasil’s achievements in the segment, such as the Amazon series, the CNN Talks editions on Smart Cities, COP 30 and the Green Economy. It also ratifies the day-to-day coverage focused on the environment, from legislation to disasters caused by the climate crisis, and extends to the channel’s look at the achievements of Paris in this context, due to the Olympic Games.
In this first season, CNN Sustainability has six episodes, to be shown on Saturday nights at 10:45 p.m. The focus is on how we can create a healthy society, plan a sustainable economy and discover ways to keep our planet green, highlighting the advantage that Brazil has worldwide to lead this scenario.
Recent research carried out by the PinOn platform for CNN Brasil shows that the public that consumes news on the brand’s platforms has more knowledge and interest than the average population in topics related to sustainability, whether on TV, the YouTube channel or CNN Brasil’s profiles on social media.
CNN Sustainability will discuss the climate crisis, the resilience of cities, the energy transition, the circular economy, water and the potential of the Amazon. The recent flooding in Rio Grande do Sul has made it clear that planning, public policies and a cross-cutting vision are essential to transform urban spaces.
An extensive list of experts make up the team interviewed on the program, starting with the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, as well as scientist Bruna Pavani, PhD in Science and researcher at the International Institute for Sustainability; the executive director of the United Nations Environment Program, Inger Andersen; Luciana Costa, director of Infrastructure, Energy Transition and Climate Change; the executive secretary of the Climate Observatory, Márcio Astrini; Malu Ribeiro, director of Public Policies at SOS Mata Atlântica; Samuel Barreto, national water manager at The Nature Conservancy; the secretary of the Environment and Climate Change, João Paulo Capobianco; and Guilherme Brammer, CEO of Boomera, a startup that creates smart and socially impactful solutions for reducing post-consumer waste.
Directly from Paris, CNN Brazil correspondent Priscila Yazbek will detail the transformations brought about by the Olympic Games in terms of environmental and social sustainability. The event will leave a promising legacy for the French capital, crowned by the audacious project that allowed the Seine River to return to bathing conditions after more than a century of pollution.
From China, senior correspondent Américo Martins shows the effort to create a cleaner energy matrix, which will increase the share of renewable energy by 88% by 2050. From Extrema, on the border between Minas Gerais and São Paulo, reporter Renan Fiuza shows the Water Conservation project, which works to replant the Atlantic Forest as a way to preserve springs. From Buenos Aires, correspondent Luciana Taddeo presents a recycling cooperative that eliminates the smell of waste, which relies on the active participation of residents. And from New York, Márcio Gomes himself reports how the city has been serving as a global example in creating laws that force society to take seriously the increasingly frequent climate catastrophes.
