CNN debuts “pop philosophy” show with Leandro Karnal

A CNN Brasil on November 13th, at 11 pm, the program “Universo Karnal” will premiere, commanded by historian and professor Leandro Karnal. With an innovative proposal, the attraction presents reflections on everyday themes that may seem common, but which bring relevant issues for those seeking self-knowledge and understanding of the ways of life of today’s societies.

What is freedom? Is it possible to be free even in a cell? How to express freedom through the body? And how can getting rid of social ties lead to freedom? Being free brings more or less happiness? These are questions that the professor asks in the first episode alongside unconventional guests, such as rapper Dexter and drag queen Íkaro Kadoshi. Karnal himself also faces his fears and challenges in the name of freedom and performs a bungee jump of spectacular height.

“Universe Karnal” will show that anyone, at any stage of life, even being experienced and famous as the historian, can do something for the first time.

For the other episodes of the season, new interviewees who bring disruption to the discussion of deep themes: Fafá de Belém, Amyr Klink, Roberta Miranda, Maria Homem, Val Marchiori, Christian Dunker and Gari Sorriso were some of the guests on the program.

The recordings of the first season were divided between the Museum of Contemporary Art of São Paulo, the Mac, and places related to the theme of each of the 07 episodes.

“I always said, in lectures, that the world of pandemics forced everyone to reinvent themselves. The Karnal Universe, in CNN, was my personal, practical response to the theory I advocated. I think everyone will be surprised,” says Leandro Karnal.
