CNN is investigating the identity of the Syrian man who may have given false information to them during a report that featured his release from a secret prison in Damascus following allegations by a Syrian organized fact-checking group that he was involved in torture and killing civilians. The shocking report was presented by CNN’s chief international correspondent Clarissa Ward, who along with her team visited the prison on December 11, after the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. During the report, which aired the next day, Ward said the CNN team was there to find missing American journalist Austin Tice, who was kidnapped while reporting in Syria in 2012.
