The Comprova Project, a coalition of media outlets formed in 2018 to investigate suspicious content about the presidential elections, announced this Tuesday (24) the entry of CNN Brazil Rádio Nova Brasil FM, SBT News and Veja.
Led by the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji), the project seeks to discover and investigate misleading, invented and deliberately false information about the presidential elections shared on social media.
This year, Comprova is also part of the Permanent Program to Combat Misinformation within the scope of Electoral Justice, of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), and the #FakeToFora, of the Instituto Palavra Aberta, which encourages the participation of young people in the election.
THE CNN , together with the project teams, will verify the veracity of texts, images and audios shared on the various social networking platforms and messaging applications. For this, professionals follow methodologies developed by First Draft, an international organization that researches disinformation and offers training to journalists who work in the fight against false content.
Abraji’s president, Natalia Mazotte, said that the entry of CNN and the other three vehicles amplifies the relevance and diversity of the coalition. “This is today the largest coalition of vehicles carrying out systematic verification and verification work in Brazil. The content developed by the network will be fundamental to the fight against disinformation during this year’s elections”, he declared.
The media organizations involved in this fifth phase of the project are: A Gazeta (ES), AFP, Alma Preta, Band News, Band News FM, Band TV, Band.com.br, CNN Brasil, Correio (BA), Correio Braziliense, Correio de Carajás (PA), Correio do Estado (MS), Correio do Povo (RS), Crusoé, Diário do Nordeste (CE), Estadão, State of Minas (MG), Folha de S.Paulo, Grupo Sinos (RS) , GZH (RS), imirante (MA), Jornal do Commercio (PE), Metro Brasil, Metrópoles, Nexo Jornal, NSC Total (SC), O Dia (RJ), O Liberal (PA), O Popular (GO), O Povo (CE), Plural (PR), Poder360, Portal Norte de Notícias (AM), Rádio Bandeirantes, Rádio CBN Cuiabá (MT), Rádio Nova Brasil FM (SP), Piauí magazine, SBT, SBT News, Tribuna do Norte (RN), UOL and Veja.
