CNN Search: Most in the USA thinks Trump went too far with deportation

More than half of US citizens assess that Donald Trump was “too far away” with measures for the deportation of irregular immigrants, according to a new survey by CNN conducted by SSRS.

In all, 52% of people heard by the survey understand that the federal administration was “too far” on the subject. In February, this number was 45%.

In addition, 52% say republican immigration policies have not made the United States safer. Most (57%) also say they do not believe that the federal government is following the law when making deportations.

Another point revealed by the survey is that 51% of citizens oppose the deportation of some immigrants directly to a prison in El Salvador. Another 29% support the measure, while 19% could not answer.

This year, the US government admitted to improperly deported immigrant Kilmar Ábrica to El Salvador. About this case, 56% of Americans believe the Trump government must work to bring it back to the country.

Only 20% believe that the administration should not be working to bring it back, and 23% say they did not hear enough about the case to form an opinion.

Trump’s approval regarding immigration

Trump’s general approval rate regarding immigration is now 45%, below 51% observed in March.

An even greater number of people who responded to the survey (53%) says they have at least some confidence in the president to address the issue of immigration, although this percentage has also fallen from 60% during the transition period before his possession.

Thus, the latest data suggest that as the White House begins to implement its immigration agenda, several of these measures were unpopular.

The government’s initiative to revoke visas to some foreign students, for example, generated opposition, while sending troops to the Mexico border generated more favorable reactions.

Overall, 7 out of 10 Americans say the government should prioritize a way to legal residence for some irregular immigrants rather than deporting everyone who illegally live in the United States.

This number is less than the 84% of Trump’s first year, but still exceeds 30% that believe that the government should focus on mass deportations.
