CNN shows this Sunday (24), at 9 pm, a documentary about the Rodney King case

CNN Brazil exhibits this Sunday (24), at 9 pm, the special documentary “Case Rodney King: 30 Years Later”. In the program, the political commentator of CNN American Van Jones will highlight how today’s racial issues are eerily similar to those that took place three decades ago.

The production investigates how aggressive policing, failed institutions and entrenched racism were the driving forces behind the five days of violence and destruction known as the “LA Riots”.

The “LA Riots”, also known as the Los Angeles Race Riots, began on April 29, 1992. The incident that triggered the event came after a jury acquitted four Los Angeles police officers accused of using excessive force in beating Rodney King during a prison.

Fires, looting and attacks turned Los Angeles, in the United States, into an almost lawless city immersed in chaos, with dozens of people killed on the first day of demonstrations. After six days of protests, the balance was 55 dead, around 2,000 injured and more than US$ 1 billion in economic losses.

The special production of CNN Americana retraces the steps of the investigation and interviews the main names involved. The material is a powerful experience to return to the streets, 30 years later, and learn what I have changed and, above all, what has not changed.
