CNN Team: Karla Chaves delivers her favorite restaurants in São Paulo

native of the Amazon, Karla Chaves has a trajectory of 13 years in journalism, five of them spent in Rio de Janeiro . But it was in 2020 that the reporter and presenter took on one of the biggest challenges of her career: helping to put on the air the CNN Brazil in March of that year.

The move to Sao Paulo brought Karla, in addition to a lot of work, an active gastronomic life full of discoveries. Confessed in love with the “land of drizzle”, the journalist jokes that yes, there is love in São Paulo, but not only that: “A lot of good food too!”.

Award-winning establishments, others specializing in meats and charcoal, and addresses that have a functional cuisine are among the restaurants that Karla most likes to frequent in the capital of São Paulo.

Here’s the best of São Paulo’s cuisine for CNN reporter and presenter Karla Chaves:

The House of the Pig

What comes to mind when you think of a pork recipe? A sparerib? for the chef Jefferson Rueda the possibilities are endless. In my opinion, the tasting menu d’The House of the Pig It is a must-see for anyone coming to São Paulo for the first time – and also for anyone who lives here.

Each step is an explosion of flavor. My highlights are the double chin sushi (R$38) and the classic pancetta crackling with guava (R$45). They are irresistible!

And the interesting thing is that, even being a porcine den, the house also has a vegetarian menu option. No wonder it’s the only Brazilian in the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world.

Puddle

Another restaurant I love in town is Puddle. The house is very cozy and the food is fantastic. Chefs Tuca Mezzomo and Pedro Ribeiro use charcoal to perfection and manage to extract the best flavor from food.

For a complete experience, here I also recommend the tasting menu (R$ 250), which is served in eight stages – four starters, two mains, pre-dessert and dessert – and features creations based on southern influences with fresh items.

Those who go à la carte cannot fail to order the house-made sausages and the mushrooms toasted with smoked pumpkin and Parmesan. I say it’s guaranteed happiness!

animus

Led by the young and super-talented chef Giovanna GrossiThe animus it is the perfect place for a relaxed dinner. The proposal is to order small plates to share at the center of the table.

Whoever goes to the house in Pinheiros cannot fail to try the roasted green beans with black olive coulis, caramelized cashews and sheep’s cheese (R$ 38), which also has a vegan version. It’s the best I’ve ever eaten in my life!

The classic bloody mary drink (R$36) is also special, since, in addition to vodka, tomato juice and tahiti lime, it also has a house seasoning – I’ve already tried to find out what’s different, but it’s a secret kept under lock and key. It’s delicious and potent in just the right amount.

Akan Functional Cooking

THE akan was a recent discovery and has already become one of my favorite restaurants in Pinheiros. The house has the premise of a functional cuisine, which prioritizes organic products from local producers with a philosophy of being a food linked to well-being and health.

In addition to being delicious, the chef’s dishes Mystic Michelle a are works of art – after all, we also eat with our eyes. The menu has several gluten-free and lactose-free options.

For starters, be sure to order the bruschetta quartet. As a main dish, I recommend the white fish moqueca with plantain and coconut rice (R$49), which is invigorating and has a velvety tomato-based sauce, paprika, coconut milk and white fish. If you want, the vegetarian version is also served with peach palm instead of fish.

Rua dos Pinheiros, 541 – Pinheiros, São Paulo – SP / Tel.: (11) 94390-0023 (Whatsapp) / Opening hours: lunch from Tuesday to Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm and dinner from 6 pm to 10 pm. / Reservations via site / Delivery via iFood and Goomer.

Petí Restaurant

THE peti it is located inside an art supply store and chef Victor Dimitrow seems to use it as inspiration for the dishes. What I see in the house is a painting in the shape of food.

I usually go to the restaurant a lot during the week, as they serve executive options with couvert, starter, main course and dessert for values ranging from R$ 75 to R$ 85. The interesting thing is that the house has an organic vegetable garden and the The menu is seasonal – it changes on average every 20 days and always guarantees a new experience.
