In the first episode of the program, the specialist presented the routine of doctors who travel across Brazil to treat patients with ECMO (Extra-corporeal Oxygenation Membrane).

The technique is used on patients to replace a functioning heart or lung. Most of the time, the equipment helps people who are queuing for a transplant. During the pandemic, ECMO became widely known for also helping patients with Covid-19.

“In the pandemic, it was a different way of doing medicine. During these two years, patients and family members were on the same level, regardless of social class”, said Filomena.

To talk about the disease caused by the new coronavirus, the program has the participation of infectologist David Uip. The doctor, who also had the disease, says he started wearing glasses after the infection.

Post-Covid syndrome was one of the topics discussed by the program, which showed how the disease acts in the body and the consequences that many patients suffer after recovery.

Longevity, blindness and back pain were also themes of the program

To recall other themes, Kalil invited the team that works with him at Hospital Sírio-Libanês for lunch.

At a dinner, Kalil recalled the adventures he had participated in alongside Dr. Sérgio Timerman, a cardiologist, intensive care physician and director of the Incor Heart Arrest and Resuscitation Sciences Center.

Together, they dived into a giant aquarium in Rio de Janeiro to talk about the risks and prevention of drowning. They also recalled the episode about artificial heart, which showed the struggle of a patient with a serious heart problem and more than 90% chance of transplant rejection. After recording, she gained a new heart.
