Co-founder of Cosmos spoke about the identified critical vulnerability in the IBC protocol

Ethan Buchman, co-founder of the Cosmos cryptocurrency project, announced that a critical vulnerability was discovered in the IBC internetworking protocol.

Apparently, the Cosmos developers stepped up security checks on their code after the BSC Token Hub bridge was hacked, during which hackers stole over $100 million worth of assets. all Cosmos networks with IBC support, and any versions. The Cosmos co-founder stressed that the developers are already working on a fix.

“The network will be protected from exploitation of this vulnerability after 1/3 of the voting nodes apply the fix. However, we should strive to have at least 2/3 of the nodes updated after the release of the official patch,” wrote Ethan Buchman.

The new Cosmos SDK versions v0.45.9 and v0.46.3 are expected to be released today, October 14th. Buchman advised updating all networks and validators as soon as patches are released. There is no need to stop networks to apply the update.

Recall that the IBC protocol allows you to transfer data between blockchains in the Cosmos ecosystem. It was launched in March 2021.
