Co-op, activity info and more: Discord gets deep integration with EA games

Discord, a popular communication application among gamers, has been displaying the user’s current gaming activity in the user’s profile for almost its entire existence. For example, if a gamer activates the appropriate setting, other users in the friends list or with shared servers will be able to see which game he has entered – this is implemented through the Discord API. But now the app is taking it to the next level with deep integration with EA games through the Rich Presence feature – so far no publisher can boast such an advantage, but it may soon become the new gold standard.

The new Rich Presence API allows EA to show more information about the player’s current activity in the user’s Discord profile. For example, the profile information will show what exactly the gamer is doing – waiting for other players in the lobby, looking for a match, exploring a certain location, fighting a boss, and so on. Moreover, if the game launched by the user is supported by the cooperative, then the friends of the gamer will be able to go directly from Discord to this game for the joint passage of the project. All this became possible thanks to the creation of our own EA App, which is currently in beta testing.

Also, the new API will display the time the player has spent in the game – this is a duplicate function that doesn’t really make sense. The fact is that the standard Discord API already displays how much time the player spends in a particular project, but now this information will be displayed twice in the profile if the game is from EA. In addition, it is worth noting that some games have previously shown information about the current location or activity of the gamer, so a really noticeable innovation can only be called the function of a quick transition to co-op.
