Cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine: Oregon decriminalizes several drugs

Beyond the presidential election and the elected positions at stake throughout the United States, other elections were held on Tuesday. Thus, voters in some states have expressed their views on the legalization of cannabis, for therapeutic purposes or not. In Oregon, the issue goes further and has been extended to all drugs.

And the result quickly fell: voters approved the decriminalization of possession of small amounts of a number of drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine. At 70% of the count, the votes in favor have a majority of more than 60%, according to The Hill. According to this new measure, possession of a “non-commercial” quantity of drugs cannot be punished with a fine of more than 100 dollars. If they do not want to pay, offenders can agree to be followed by a drug addiction treatment center.

Towards the therapeutic use of certain hallucinogenic mushrooms

“Oregon is making history tonight by becoming the first state to decriminalize drug possession,” the Drug Settlement Alliance, which led the campaign, wrote on Twitter. On the hallucinogenic aisle, the people of Oregon have also spoken on the issue of certain hallucinogenic mushrooms, which may be used in the treatment of mental illnesses such as depression.
