Cryptocurrency users receive fraudulent letters, the senders of which impersonate the representatives of the Coinbase and Gemini cryptocurrency. The scammers convince them to create a new wallet with ready -made phrases of recovery.
In fraudulent letters, a certain collective lawsuit against Coinbase is mentioned, due to which the exchange sold all “unregistered securities”, as a result of which the court ordered users to independently manage their wallets. Fraudsters write that Coinbase will work as a registered broker, and traders will continue to trade, but all assets must be transferred to a new wallet.
In this regard, the exchange customers are invited to switch to wallets with self -service and instructions for loading the legitimate Coinbase wallet. Along with this, the traders are given pre-generated sid frazes. The deadline for switching to a new wallet is April 1.
However, as soon as users translate their crypto assets, they become accessible to attackers. Coinbase warned that Sid-Fraz would never send users, and customers, in turn, should not introduce phrases of recovery provided by unauthorized persons.
Fraudsters use a similar scheme of fraud with SID frazes using the name of the American crypto-tank Gemini. The scammers convince its users to create a new wallet, mentioning Gemini trial with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which had previously accused the platform of an offer of unregistered securities through the credit program Gemini Earn.
In February, the American regulator stopped investigating Gemini and did not recommend forced measures for her. However, the SEC warned that if necessary, it could resume the judicial persecution of the exchange.
