Coinbase Announces Launch Date for Base Mainnet Public Version

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase stated that the public version of the main network Base will be released on August 9, 2023. At the same time, a bridge between the blockchain and the Ethereum space is already available to users.

In honor of the mainnet launch, the company has prepared a series of events Online Summer. More than 50 partners will participate in the event, including digital artists, other platforms and marketplaces.

Also, starting August 9, NFT support will appear on the network, including commemorative ones. To participate in most of the activities offered, you need to replenish a wallet that supports the blockchain.

Recall that Base is an L2 wrapper on top of Ethereum, developed on the basis of the OP stack. The project is positioned as the maximum easy access to the DeFi space.

Coinbase introduced a developer version of the mainnet in mid-July 2023. The network received support for the LayerZero protocol. The Aave community is also considering integration.

By the end of July, the daily volume of transactions in Base exceeded 550,000. This happened against the backdrop of a boom in the popularity of memcoins.

Unfortunately, it was not without difficulties. One of the largest exchanges, Base LeetSwap, was hacked, the damage amounted to about $630,000.
