“The same attacker who paid the Coinbase support service to kidnap the data of almost users for more than $ 300 million, just began to troll me in onchain after through Thorchain exchanged more than $ 42.5 million from bitcoins for Ethereum,” the analyst wrote.

Recall that since March 2025, according to Zachxbt, the attackers used 14 crypto -cores for thefts from Coinbase users accounts. In May, the amount of the stolen exceeded $ 90 million, including $ 45 million in only one week.

On May 15, Coinbase officially recognized the fact of data leakage, announcing the potential influence on less than 1% of users, including the information of the “Know your client” procedure, addresses and phone numbers. Hackers used social engineering methods and received data by bribing the exchange of the exchange support service abroad – probably in India.

The company refused to pay the ransom required by hackers in the amount of $ 20 million and instead announced the creation of a fund of $ 20 million for the search for guilty.

The Cryptostean statement spoke of compensation for losses to users and cooperation with law enforcement agencies to punish violators.

At the same time, two collective lawsuits for negligence and improper informing of customers have already been filed a company. Coinbase shares after the news of the leak fell by more than 7%, and the US Ministry of Justice opened a criminal investigation into the incident.
