Coinbase launched its exchange platform in India

The American cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, which ranks second in the world in terms of trading volume, has officially launched its services in India.

The exchange’s official Twitter posted the message “Chalo shuru karein!”, or “Let’s get started!” in Hindi. An official presentation was held at the technological hub of the Indian state of Bangalore.

The mobile application of the American exchange became available to Indian users. Coinbase Product Director Surojit Chatterjee showed how local users register during a live presentation. Registration requires that the client is connected to the local payment system UPI, which is a digital instant payment system supported by the Central Bank of India.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has been in India for several weeks now. According to him, there is still a lot of work to be done with regulators, especially against the backdrop of new regulations on taxation of transactions with cryptocurrencies in the country:

“We know that securing adoption of new technology will not be easy. We do not have a clear idea of how regulation will develop. But we will work with banks, regulators and, most importantly, the Indian people, because he has shown a real interest in cryptocurrencies and a desire to gain access to new services and products.”

Earlier it was reported that Coinbase plans to increase the staff of its Indian division by 1,000 people this year.
