The mobile application of the American exchange became available to Indian users. Coinbase Product Director Surojit Chatterjee showed how local users register during a live presentation. Registration requires that the client is connected to the local payment system UPI, which is a digital instant payment system supported by the Central Bank of India.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has been in India for several weeks now. According to him, there is still a lot of work to be done with regulators, especially against the backdrop of new regulations on taxation of transactions with cryptocurrencies in the country:
“We know that securing adoption of new technology will not be easy. We do not have a clear idea of how regulation will develop. But we will work with banks, regulators and, most importantly, the Indian people, because he has shown a real interest in cryptocurrencies and a desire to gain access to new services and products.”
Earlier it was reported that Coinbase plans to increase the staff of its Indian division by 1,000 people this year.
