Coinbase Venture Capital Invested Nearly All Capital in 2021

At the end of the year, the venture capital company Coinbase Ventures has marked out the securities of more than 200 companies in its investment portfolio.

In a report, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase said its venture capital arm, Coinbase Ventures
invested a total of 49 companies in Q3 2021. On average, the fund invested every two days. The number of companies in the company’s portfolio increased by 28 compared to the second quarter of 2021 and by 24 compared to the first quarter of this year. The investment portfolio of Ventures as of the III quarter included more than 200 companies and projects.

It is important to note that Coinbase Ventures’ operations were not affected by the market lull in Q2 2021. Against the background of the cryptocurrency market correction, the company continued to actively invest. As a result, in 2021, the company invested 90% of the raised capital. In 2021, the company revised 50% of its investment portfolio and added new shares. These are securities of such well-known companies as: Compound Protocol, BlockFi, Dharma, OpenSea, Messari, CoinMetrics, EtherScan, CoinTracker, BisonTrails, UMA, Synthetic, Celo.

The Coinbase division is different from traditional investment companies. It does not have a fixed fund size, full-time employees, and capital investments come directly from the company’s balance sheet. Coinbase President and CEO Emilie Cho stated that Ventures is a decentralized financial marketplace.

Coinbase Ventures invests in cryptocurrency projects of all kinds. She recently led a funding round from cryptocurrency exchange Coin Switch Kuber. In August, Coinbase funded cryptocurrency lending platform Vauld and backed FTX cryptocurrency exchange.
