Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has added a new security feature to its wallet, thanks to which users are warned when they visit malicious sites and decentralized applications.
According to a series of tweets from Coinbase management, in the first half of 2022, Web3 users lost more than $2 billion due to hacker attacks. Attackers often hack accounts on Twitter, Discord and other social networks, send out phishing emails in the hope of stealing the crypto assets of gullible users. With this, Coinbase explains the introduction of an additional layer of protection, which is designed to protect customers from fraud in the Web3 ecosystem.
When Coinbase wallet users try to download any DeFi application or visit a suspicious resource, the service checks it against an extensive database that contains malware. If an application is marked as dangerous, the user is warned.
The database is based on information from open sources, reports from Coinbase users, as well as research from the company’s security experts. The list of phishing and scam sites is constantly updated. Users also have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of the database by reporting suspicious DeFi applications to the helpdesk.
Coinbase developers assure that ensuring security is one of the priorities of the exchange. According to recent data from Netskope, phishing attacks using SEO tools on Google Sites and Microsoft Azure have increased in the first half of 2022, targeting customers of Coinbase and other marketplaces.
