Attackers send to crypto projects emails from fake domains Team-CoinmarketCapcom and Contact-Coinmarketcapcom, inviting to the online meeting to discuss with developers and innovation managers in the Web3 sector. In fake letters there is a CMC logo, which confuses people. In addition, scammers create fake accounts on the social network X, simulating the profiles of the authors working on CoinmarketCap – attackers use their photos and accounting data.
Having entered the confidence of potential victims, fake journalists invite developers to an online conference in Zoom. Then the attackers ask the interlocutors to switch Zoom to Polish, claiming that this needs to be done to create notes. After the restart, a pop -up window appears in Polish, where it is proposed to resolve remote control of the screen. Unfortunately, many users, without hesitation, agree to this without delving into the meaning of the recording.
After providing remote access, hackers immediately launch a malicious program, abduct the accounting data and devastate the cryptocurrency address of the victim while she thinks that she is in a normal interview. CoinmarketCap said that several famous crypto industry participants have already suffered from such attacks.
The platform said that its authors CMC are freelancers who will never offer their materials to crypto projects. The decision to publish information about any project is made exclusively by the CoinmarketCap editors. The platform noted that the real CMC journalists do not use the official email CoinmarketCap and will not promise the developers a fixed article about their project is only a reason to get in touch.
In June, the CoinmarketCap platform warned that scammers began to send letters with phishing links on her behalf, by crossing the users who give their personal data to hackers, and then lose their crypto assets.
