Cold front advance causes heavy rains in southern Brazil

The advance of a cold front leaves almost the entire southern region of Brazil on alert for heavy rain and lightning storms, this Tuesday (10th).

According to Climatempo meteorologists, the cold front advances along the southern coast and joins the cloudiness formed by a “strong drop in atmospheric pressure between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, which forms clouds carried by the region”.

For this Tuesday (10), the forecast is that the heaviest rains will happen in the west and south of Paraná, in the center and west of Santa Catarina and in the areas of the north and northwest of Rio Grande do Sul.

“The other areas should have at most moderate intensity rain, as is the case in capital cities,” Climatempo reported.

On Wednesday (11), the cold front should advance further to the Southeast and dry air will regain strength in part of the south and west of Rio Grande do Sul.

“In Porto Alegre, on the north coast, the north of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná, the forecast is for a day [quarta-feira (11)] full of clouds and with forecast of some periods with rain. There are conditions for wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/hm, mainly in the eastern part of the region”, points out Climatempo.

The week should end with isolated rain showers across the southern region. “Colder and drier air that should prevail again in much of the region”, predict Climatempo meteorologists.
