Rio Grande do Sul is expected to experience rain in the coming days due to a mass of dry and cold air driven by an extratropical cyclone in the South Atlantic, according to a forecast from MetSul Meteorologia.
However, the company states that there is no cause for concern: “Raining is the normal condition and at this time of year it usually rains one or two days a week.”
In this way, the rain in the coming days is not expected to bring about a repeat of the floods that affected the state in recent weeks and which, as of this Sunday (2), had already caused 172 deaths. “At most, they should hinder cleaning efforts in areas that flooded,” adds MetSul.
The company adds that the regions that are expected to record the greatest amount of rain are the center, south and east of the state. In these places, the level of precipitation can reach up to 40 millimeters.
The level of Lake Guaíba, which bathes the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, continues to fall. At 2pm this Sunday, the level was 3.47 meters. A week earlier, at 2 pm, the level was 4.07 meters. The drop, therefore, was 60 centimeters.
The Rio dos Sinos reached a level of 4.44 meters on Sunday afternoon and left the flood level. However, other rivers, such as the Gravataí and Jacuí, remain at flood level. The Uruguay River is at the alert level.
