The state of Santa Catarina is preparing for the arrival of cold front coming from Rio Grande do Sul with forecast of storms in the early hours of Thursday (2). In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the storms left at least ten dead and 21 missing, according to information from the state government.
Civil Defense issued a state of attention alert for part of Santa Catarina from 4 am on Thursday (2). The alert is valid until 11:59 pm on Friday (3).
The state agency highlighted the risk of storms with electrical discharges, strong gusts of wind and even the possibility of hail. There is also a moderate to high risk of occurrences associated with flooding and flash floods, roofing, damage to the electrical network and landslides.
In the early hours of Thursday (2), heavy and intense rains are expected in the Grande Oeste, Planalto Sul and Litoral Sul. Throughout the day, areas of instability advance towards the Alto Vale do Itajaà and Grande Florianópolis.
According to the Civil Defense, rainfall can vary from 150mm to 200mm in the Far West, West and in areas of the Midwest, Planalto Sul and Litoral Sul that border the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It is not ruled out. the possibility of larger accruals than anticipated.
In the northern half of the Midwest, Planalto Sul, Litoral Sul and in some areas of Alto Vale do Itajaà and Grande Florianópolis, volumes should be around 100 mm. Civil Defense emphasizes that these forecasts may change, depending on the position in which the cold front approaches the state.
This is because, on Friday (3), the cold front positions itself over the state of Santa Catarina and maintains rainy weather in all regions. The rains may be accompanied by lightning, strong gusts of wind and possible hail, especially in Grande Oeste, Planalto Sul, Litoral Sul and Grande Florianópolis.
During Saturday (4), the instability system still causes intense rain in the Grande Oeste, Planalto Sul, Litoral Sul and Grande Florianópolis. However, the forecast is that the cold front will return to the south at the end of the day, allowing for a Sunday (05) of firm weather in most of the state of Santa Catarina.
