Colin McRae’s Subaru WRX rally sold in Australia for 8.4 BTC

At auction in Australia, a Subaru WRX rally car by famous 1990s racer Colin McRae was sold for A $ 500,000 with payment in bitcoins.

Bidding took place at Lloyds Auctions on September 30th. Initially, the specialists of the auction house believed that a fairly old car would cost from $ 10,000 to $ 15,000. However, it turned out that the car participated in the World Rally Championship (WRC), and the legendary racers – Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz (Carlos Sainz).

The famous Subaru WRX was modified by the British firm Prodrive to participate in the WRC World Rally Championship. Some fans even suggested that its cost could exceed one million Australian dollars ($ 730,000), but the auction managed to bail out half of this amount. The buyer paid for the car in bitcoins (at the exchange rate for September 30, this is approximately 8.4 BTC). The buyer of the collectible car and the exact amount of the payment in BTC remained unknown.

Note that collectors’ and vintage car dealerships in Australia often accept cryptocurrency payments. Such rare purchases often occur in other countries as well. Back in 2016, in Finland, a buyer paid for a Tesla Model S electric car using bitcoins. The purchase amount was 140,000 euros. Earlier, the CEO of the Kraken exchange Jesse Powell said that by 2023, 1 BTC could buy a Bugatti car.
