Colin Wu referred to a statement from the US Federal Security Service (FBI) dated January 2023 that funds received as a result of the theft of the Harmony platform were transferred through the Railgun mixer, totaling $60 million.
“The North Korean hacker group is a user of the Railgun mixer. The FBI says North Korean attackers used Railgun to launder ETH.”
Vitalik Buterin himself commented on Colin Wu’s tweet, writing that “privacy is normal”:
“Railgun enforces a privacy pooling protocol, making it much more difficult for attackers to join a pool without compromising user privacy.”
Over the past six months, the Ethereum co-founder has repeatedly used the Railgun protocol to transfer small amounts. The last transaction on April 15, 2024 was for 100 ETH ($325,000).
Earlier, Vitalik Buterin presented the community with a new approach aimed at strengthening the decentralization of Ethereum by introducing penalties for failures between validators.
