Collapse of government in Nepal after bloody demonstrations

Hundreds of citizens invaded the perimeter of Parliament in Nepal, set fire to the main building and wrote slogans on the walls, celebrating the prime minister’s resignation. The slogan “We Won” dominated, and video shows tobacco columns covering parliament in the center of the capital. The 73 -year -old Oli’s residence was also set on fire, while protesters allegedly seized weapons by police officers guarding government buildings. Despite the tension, no new conflicts were mentioned, as security forces did not intervene. Olli submitted a letter of resignation to President Ramsandra Pudel, stating that he was seeking “political resolution of the crisis”. The president accepted the resignation and began discussions for a new prime minister. The ban on social media, which caused the initial explosion, was imposed on the basis of a decision of the Supreme Court of 2023. It included platforms such as Facebook, X, YouTube and LinkedIn.
