At least 17 people have been killed in Arauca, eastern Colombia, during fighting between rebel insurgents of the former Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) and members of the National Liberation Army (ELN), Mayor Etelivar Torres told Mayor
Fighting broke out in various parts of the region, which borders Venezuela, on Sunday, Mr. Torres told Caracol television.
Citing information from residents of the area, the elected said that “somewhere 17 people were killed”. He did not give further details.
In addition to Araukita, fighting also broke out in the municipalities of Saravena, Fortul and Tame, the mayor added, urging President Ivan Duce to take action to stop the violence.
