Colombia on Tuesday (30) requested that Venezuela resolve any doubts about the results of the presidential election by releasing all the minutes with the final results, so that the world can audit them.
Venezuela’s National Electoral Council declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner of last Sunday’s elections, a move that was questioned by the opposition and the international community.
“For peace in Venezuela, we need to see all the minutes of the final results, and for them to be audited by the world,” said Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo in a statement.
“The international community and the Venezuelan people expect transparency and electoral guarantees to prevail for all sectors, and it is also extremely important to clarify any doubts about the ballots,” the diplomat added.
Colombia has become the main destination for Venezuelan immigrants seeking to escape the country’s political, economic and social crisis. More than 2.8 million Venezuelans are currently in Colombia, according to official statistics.
