Colombia expels Argentine diplomats after Milei calls Petro a “terrorist murderer”

The Colombian government ordered this Wednesday (27) the expulsion of Argentina's entire diplomatic corps from their country, in protest at the statements that President Javier Milei made against the Colombian head of state, Gustavo Petro.

In an interview with CNN, Milei called Petro a “terrorist murderer”.

“The Argentine president's expressions deteriorated our nation's confidence, in addition to offending the dignity of President Petro, who was democratically elected,” the Colombian government said in a statement.

The decision comes after Milei said, in an interview with Andrés Oppenheimer, that “you can't expect much from someone who was a terrorist murderer”, in reference to Petro's guerrilla past.

According to the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the scope of the expulsion “will be communicated to the Argentine embassy through institutional diplomatic channels”.

A CNN asked the Argentine Foreign Ministry for comments on this decision and is awaiting a response.

Before the decision was announced, the Colombian ambassador to Argentina, Camilo Romero, announced in X that the Colombian government “is exploring all measures” to respond to Milei's statements against Petro.
