The candidate on the right on presidential elections in ColombiaFederico Gutierrez, complained yesterday Monday that an illegally installed hidden microphone was found at one of his campaign offices in Medellin, L’s second largest cityof Latin America.
The microphone was discovered last Friday and was immediately informed the policeaccording to Gutierrez, who according to polls is going to be defeated in the second round by the candidate of the left, Gustavo Petros.
Mr Gutierrez, the former mayor of Medellin, has demanded that his opponent clarify whether he has anything to do with the microphone. “This campaign is more than dirty”he said, describing the installation of the microphone in the office of his group as “illegal action” that “endangers democracy”.

Miguel νngel del Rίοo, a lawyer close to center-left Senator Petros, categorically denied that his side candidate for the “Historic Agreement” (Pacto Histórico por Colombia, PHxC) has anything to do with the finding.
The two opponents, against polls the most prominent in the run-up to the elections, the first round of which will take place on Sunday 29 May, have already been repeatedly accused of supporting illegal armed groups operating in the country, respectively the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the Clan del Golfo.
According to the APE-MPE, this is an organization of the far left and a drug-trafficking gang formed by far-right former paramilitaries.
Earlier this month, Mr. Petros’s campaign announced that it had canceled his campaign appearances in the coffee-producing area because he reportedly had information that a gang was plotting to assassinate him.

Mr Gutierrez, for his part, said his campaign staff had received threats from an organization called Águilas Negras (“Black Eagles”, far right).
Police say they are investigating both allegations.
If neither of the two main candidates secures 50% plus one vote, a run-off will be held on 19 June.
THE Colombia has never met a government of the left; Mr. Peter’s predicted victory would be a political earthquake in the Andean state.
