Bill Cosby is being sued by Victoria Valentino in a new civil suit alleging decades-old sexual harassment allegations, which his lawyer has shared with the CNN and said it opened in Los Angeles on Thursday (1st).
Shortly after meeting Cosby in 1969, Valentino claims she and a friend had dinner with the comedian, where they were given pills and then agreed to go into an office with him, according to the lawsuit.
“After ingesting the pill, the author’s head began to bob and she struggled to keep her head up and stay awake. The author felt nauseous and her head was spinning. She declared, ‘I want to go home now,'” according to the lawsuit.
The suit outlines in graphic detail the allegations that Cosby raped Valentino, claiming “the plaintiff was unable to consent due to being drugged by Cosby and physically helpless.”
Valentino filed the lawsuit under California’s new law, which gives residents a three-year window in which they can file civil sexual assault claims that would otherwise be barred by an expired statute of limitations.
According to the lawsuit, she is seeking general, special and punitive damages, as well as attorney and court fees.
Andrew Wyatt, a representative for Cosby, said it is “deeply disturbing and disappointing that our lawmakers are pushing these ‘retrospective windows,’ which are an absolute violation of all American constitutional rights.”
“Statements of limitation reside in the Constitution in order to protect those who are victims of a crime and to protect those who are accused of a crime. Unfortunately, these ‘looking back windows’ are brought to life because our political figures are being driven by clickbait, likes and followers in order to outdo their political aspirations.”
Wyatt adds that Valentino’s allegations are “without any proof or fact” and claims that there are “inconsistencies in his many statements”.
“The trauma he inflicted on me affects not only me, but my children and grandchildren as well. By breaking my silence and speaking my truth, I hope this serves as a legacy for my family and shows survivors who have yet to find their voices that hope and healing are possible,” Valentino said in a statement shared by his attorney.
More than 40 women have accused the 85-year-old artist of sexual assault.
