Investigations are progressing into the case of attacks suffered by comedian Gustavo Mendes on January 5, in Juiz de Fora (MG).
In an interview with the press, the Civil Police of Juiz de Fora states that the victim was not assaulted, as had been initially considered, but that the comedian and the aggressor would have had a disagreement before the aggression.
According to delegate Daniel Buchmuller, the investigation is divided into two phases. The first is the accusation made by Gustavo, who claims to have suffered an attempted robbery and the police’s conclusion is that there was bodily injury.
“We had access to several security cameras that were in the places and we were able to find out that, in fact, Gustavo had animosity with the aggressor minutes before. Soon after the attacker returns to the scene and they have a new discussion. The aggressor, not satisfied, picks up two stones and hits Gustavo in the head. At that moment, Gustavo starts a chase, because the aggressor escapes from the place”, reports the delegate.
The second phase of the investigation will determine the motivation for the aggression and Gustavo’s conduct. If it is proven that the victim intentionally lied, claiming that he had suffered an attempted robbery, he may respond for the crime of slanderous denunciation.
After the conclusions presented by the Civil Police, the comedian spoke in a video published on social networks in which he refutes the allegation.
In one of the videos, Mendes says:
“He (the aggressor) and his wife were easily identified because, according to the police themselves, they already committed thefts here, they were already known to the police. But, suddenly, in my case, according to the police chief, it wasn’t theft, it was just an assault (…) The guy crosses the street, comes towards me – and this is in the pictures -, puts his hand under his blouse simulating a weapon. I see that he is not armed. He comes after a friend of mine, who has a cell phone. I interrupt that, I get in the middle of the situation to scare him. He leaves scared, picks up two stones and gives them to me, ”he reports.
He asks what the discussion would have been and continues: “So, bring this guy to the public, since they already know who he is. Bring the guy in and ask what the situation was. If it wasn’t an attempted robbery, what was it?”, he ponders.
THE CNN consulted the Juiz de Fora Civil Police for a position on the comedian’s statements, which replied:
“As reported by the Civil Police, the case is still under investigation. Soon, we will disclose the information on the conclusion of the investigation of the facts”.
