The Trade Confidence Index (Icom) dropped 0.9 point from March to April, to 85.9 points, informed this Thursday (28) the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).
In quarterly moving averages, the indicator rose 0.3 point.
“In April, there was a worsening of trade confidence for the second consecutive month, with a composition very similar to that of the previous month. Once again, the negative bias of the result was driven by a further significant drop in expectations in relation to the coming months”, evaluated Rodolpho Tobler, coordinator of the Trade Survey at the Brazilian Institute of Economics at FGV (Ibre/FGV), in an official note. .
“On the other hand, the perception of sales volume in the current month has advanced, but it is still necessary to consider that these recent highs have not yet returned all the losses suffered since the end of 2021.”
In April, there was a worsening in confidence in two of the six main segments of commerce.
The Current Situation Index (ISA-COM) rose 5.3 points to 92.9 points, while the Expectations Index (IE-COM) dropped 6.8 points to 79.6 points.
“For the next few months, the scenario still seems uncertain, given that the prospects of entrepreneurs on sales, business trends and employment are down, the complicated macroeconomic environment and consumer confidence are oscillating at a low level”, added Tobler.
The April Commerce Survey collected information from 760 companies between the 1st and 26th of the month.
