The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in the EU fell further in December 2021. (by 2.1 points at 114.5) and in the Eurozone (by 2.3 points at 115.3), according to data released today by the European Commission.
At the same time, for the first time since January 2021, the index for labor market expectations fell (by 1.4 points in the EU and by 1.6 points in the Eurozone), as announced by the Commission.
Among the largest EU economies the ESI index increased only in Poland, while it decreased in the Netherlands (-4.1), Germany (-2.8), France (-2.1), Italy (-1.6) and Spain (-0.8) .
The Commission’s data showed a drop in consumer confidence (-1.4) as household expectations for their financial situation and their intention to move to larger markets declined.
