Confidence between consumers and eurozone businesses fell in April amid rising inflation and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Commission announced today that the economic climate index fell to 105 points in April from 106.7 points in March.
Analysts expected the index to reach 108 points.
The decline is attributed to the deterioration of confidence in industry, retail, construction, and among consumers, while the confidence index remained unchanged in services.
The climate also worsened in Spain and France, albeit to a lesser extent.
Confidence remained stable in Germany, while it improved in Italy.
The employment expectations index fell further in April due to the deterioration of employment plans for the next quarter, in all four business sectors, the Commission said.
