The economic climate in the eurozone fell slightly less than expected in June, as consumers and retail became more pessimistic but the climate in services and industry improved.
The Commission’s monthly survey showed that the economic climate in the eurozone fell to 104 points in June from 105 points in May.
Economists expected the index to reach 103 points in June.
The climate in industry improved to 7.4 points from 6.5 points in May and for services, the largest sector of the economy, to 14.8 points from 14.1 points in May.
Economists expected a decline in both industries.
Manufacturing companies appeared more optimistic about future production and order books, but less optimistic about employment.
Overall greater uncertainty was also observed. The services sector has been more optimistic about its activities over the past three months, but less optimistic about the future.
Consumer confidence fell to -23.6 points from -21.2 points and the retail climate fell to -5.1 points from -4.2 points.
Households had a pessimistic view of the economy in the previous and next year as well as their prospects of making large purchases and savings.
