Commission: The EU remains committed to finding a solution to the Cyprus problem

In reassuring that the EU remains fully committed to finding a solution to Cyprus, in accordance with the relevant decisions of the UN Security Council, was made on Thursday (22/4) by the representative of the Commission in charge of foreign affairs, Peter Stano.

The representative of the Commission, as broadcast by the Athens News Agency, stated that “The EU welcomes the forthcoming UN-sponsored Cyprus talks and that the EU remains fully committed to finding a solution, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions “.

Peter Stano also stated that “EU remains ready to play an active role in supporting the negotiations, including the appointment of a representative to the UN Good Service Mission».

Referring to the invitation to participate in the Geneva talks, the spokesman stressed that so far the EU has not received a relevant invitation from the UN, who is responsible for sending the invitations. This, he concluded, means nothing for the EU’s position that it remains ready to play an active role and support this process.
