Compact crossover for travel with a huge panorama: Mazda unveils CX-50

Japanese car company Mazda has officially unveiled its new compact crossover CX-50, which, according to the manufacturer itself, will primarily interest fans of outdoor activities and fans of driving outside asphalt surfaces. Especially for this, the new product was equipped with all-wheel drive (it is now presented even in the basic version as a standard feature) and roof rails for installing additional equipment for transporting equipment. At the same time, at the start, the crossover will be available with two engine options, which will later be expanded with hybrid power plants.

In the basic version, fans of crossovers get a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, while if desired, you can take a more powerful version – a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine of the Skyactiv-G family. Both units work in tandem with a non-alternative six-speed automatic transmission, but the manufacturer has not yet talked about the power of its motors, acceleration from zero to one hundred and other dynamic characteristics. However, it is worth recalling that similar motors are on the CX-5, where their maximum power is 190 and 253 horsepower, respectively – most likely, the new cars will have the same performance.

There is still no information about electric power plants in a hybrid configuration, but it may appear closer to release. But the manufacturer said that the CX-50 as standard receives Mazda Intelligent Drive Select technology – this is a special function for selecting a driving mode for a specific surface, which makes off-road driving more comfortable. But to say in the cabin that the car was created for trips to nature is problematic – the seat upholstery is made of leather (or ecological leather), there are many decorative elements, a digital dashboard and a display of the multimedia system, a huge panoramic roof.

Production of the first batch of Mazda CX-50 is scheduled for 2022 at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant in Huntsville, USA – the crossover will be sold on the local market and in Canada. Most likely, the car will go to other markets, as in the case of the CX-5, but the company does not name the exact dates.
