Company produces more than 5 thousand blankets for donation to RS

Federal Express Corporation, a transport company, announced the donation of 5,500 blankets to help victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. The material is part of a recycling program for uniforms that are out of use. Around 4.1 tons of fabrics were used to make the blankets.

This is the 9th edition of the Uniform Recycling Program, which used more than 13 thousand pieces that were no longer in use, and were used to produce humanitarian aid directed to the south of the country.

The program began in 2015, and since then, more than 32 thousand blankets have been produced in the last 9 years, with 81.6 thousand pieces of clothing being used. During this period, the company estimates that almost 26 tons of fabrics were reused.

Destination of donations

The majority of the pieces, around 65%, will be destined for Rio Grande do Sul. Of this total, 3,000 blankets will be sent to the Salvation Army to assist in its actions in the state, while 700 smaller units will be delivered to animal protection organizations. The remaining pieces will be distributed to NGOs nominated by employees in other regions of the country.

“The FedEx Uniform Recycling Program reflects our purpose of positively impacting the communities where we operate and our commitment to minimizing the impacts of our operations on the environment,” said Gabriel Kayser, chief marketing and customer experience officer at FedEx.

The measure is part of the company’s institutional planning that aims to support sustainability causes, in addition to achieving global operational goals in neutralizing carbon emissions by 2040.
