Competition Commission: A whistleblowing campaign is launched

The Competition Commission (ECC) is launching for the first time a nationwide communication campaign to promote the whistleblowing institution in the media, inspired by relevant European directives.

EA’s anonymous information system is the most technologically advanced and completely secure method for every citizen (businessman, employee, consumer) to help detect anti-competitive practices, while similar anonymous information systems are used by other Competition Authorities worldwide. , such as the European Competition Commission, the Competition Commission of Germany, Great Britain, Denmark, South Korea, etc.

This initiative is part of a new strategy to detect anti-competitive practices through the use of innovative technological and other methods, but also to inform the general public about competition issues, which started in 2020.

Throughout 2021, EA has made a series of targeted moves to raise awareness of competition issues but also to strengthen the culture of competition for both businesses and consumers, while in the context of a systematic policy to prevent and combat competitive practices has intensified its actions, compared to previous years, by directly intervening in a multitude of key markets and against practices aimed at:

-falsification of tenders and offers,
-the pricing of products / services,
-purchase sharing / customer sharing,
– the restriction or control of production, markets or technical development,
-exclusion of competitors and products from the market, etc.,
-anti-competitive behaviors by dominant companies that impose unfair prices or unfair trading conditions, etc.

Following these moves and with the aim of further enhancing healthy competition and preventing phenomena that negatively affect the well-being of consumers, for the year 2022 EA proceeds to further intensify the moves aimed at informing the public and the substantial and immediate enlargement the opportunities given to citizens to contribute effectively to the protection of the public interest, through the institution of the anonymous provision of competition information.
