Of Costa Ketsietzis

More and more expensive were the mobile phones sold in our country in 2021, as the demands for more functions and increased speeds increase.

According to market information, 1.9 million devices were sold in our country last year, recording an increase of 6.5% from the 1.78 million devices in 2020. And if the increase in the number of mobile phones was in single digits, something This does not apply to the value of mobile phones, which recorded an increase of 20%, to 630 million euros last year from 523 million euros in 2020.

However, the smartphone market remained a game for a few, with 90% of the turnover going to three companies. Samsung remained at the top of the manufacturers for another year as almost 39% of the devices sold last year belonged to the Korean company. In second place was the Chinese Xiaomi with 36% of devices and in third place was Apple with 10%.

The top five is completed by realme and huawei, which accounted for 3% of the market for devices sold, followed by TCL-Alcatel with a market share of 2.5%.

In the case of the fourth quarter, a total of about 550,000 devices were sold. 206,000 devices were sold in November, receiving a boost from both Black Friday and 188,000 devices in December.

The ranking differs in comparing the value of devices sold. Samsung remains in first place with 39% of the market, while Apple is in second place with 31%. Xiaomi followed with 25% of the value of the sold devices and the realme and TCL-Alcatel closed the top five with their shares reaching 3% and 2.5% respectively.

Although the three market positions are more or less stable, the picture was quite different compared to last year in the last positions of the list and proved that those of the manufacturers who had availability in their devices managed to gain the preference and of course the consumer wallet.
