Complaints against Republican MP under investigation for sexual misconduct and drug use

The Ethics Committee of the House of Representatives announced Launches investigation into allegations that Republican MP Matt Gates “may be involved in sexual misconduct and / or drug use” among other allegations.

The Democratic chairman of the commission and the top Republican in it said in a statement that they were “aware of public allegations” that Gates, an ardent supporter of former President Donald Trump, may have violated “House Rules, laws, or other ethics “.

Gates is being investigated by the Justice Department USA for possible violation of pimping laws, paying the travel expenses of a 17-year-old girl with whom he had an affair, according to a law enforcement source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The Florida lawmaker has not been charged with any crime and has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Leaders of the Ethics Committee said that according to the allegations, Gates “may have been involved in sexual misconduct and / or drug use, posted inappropriate pictures or videos in the House of Representatives, misused state records, used money laundering, of his campaign for personal use, and / or accepted a bribe “, among others.

Gates’s office said in a statement: “Once again, the office will reiterate that these allegations are blatantly false and have not been confirmed by any person willing to speak on their behalf.”

Earlier, Adam Kinzinger became the first Republican to call for Gates to resign.

“Matt Gates must resign,” Kinsinger, a Trump critic, tweeted Thursday night.

A friend of Gates, a former Florida tax collector, Jol Greenberg is expected to plead guilty to a pimp and fraud case in a Florida federal court, officials said Thursday.

Greenberg’s lawyer, Fritz Seller, told reporters Thursday. “I’m sure Matt Gates does not feel very comfortable today.” Seller appeared to be referring to media reports that Greenberg may be collaborating with federal investigators in their search for Gates.

Two New York criminal defense attorneys confirmed Friday that they had been hired by Gates.

“Matt has always been a fighter… and he is going to fight against baseless allegations against him. “His legal team, led by Mark McCasey and Isabel Kirsner, will go to war against those who try to tarnish his name with lies,” said Logan Circle Group spokeswoman Erin Elmore.

Gates was scheduled to speak Friday at the Save America Summit at Trump’s National Doral Resort in Miami. The summit is being organized by Women for America First, a pro-Trump group that held a Jan. 6 rally near the White House before the Capitol invasion.
