The 88-year-old king has been on the throne since 2015, although his son, Mohammed bin Salman, 39, was named crown prince in 2017 and serves as the leader of day-to-day governance. Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest exporter of crude oil, has for years tried to quell speculation about King Salman’s health.
