Following in the footsteps of Denmark, Norway also decided today to suspend vaccinations “precautionarily” with the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19. The country’s health authorities announced their decision due to fears associated with the formation of blood clots.
“In Norway we are stopping vaccinations with AstraZeneca”, said Gair Buchholm, a senior official at the National Institute of Public Health, during a press conference.
“We are waiting for information to see if there is a connection between the vaccination and this case of blood clots,” he added, as reported by Reuters and Agence France-Presse and relayed by the Athens News Agency.
Earlier today Denmark had announced that the vaccine had been suspended “following reports of severe cases of blood clots in people who have been vaccinated with the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine”. The Danish National Health Service stressed that “at this time we can not conclude that there is a link between the vaccine and the clots.”

The Danish authorities did not disclose how many reports of thrombosis there were. Reuters notes that Austria has stopped using a batch of AstraZeneca vaccines for as long as it investigates a death from thrombotic disorders and a pulmonary embolism.
According to the Danish authorities, six other European countries have stopped using a batch of AstraZeneca vaccines.
It is noted that The European Medicines Agency has announced that a preliminary investigation has shown no link between the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 and the death of an Austrian nurse.
According to the EMA, the number of cases of blood clot vaccination in people who have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca is not higher than that observed in the general population, with 22 such cases reported among the 3 million people who have been vaccinated until 9 March with that vaccine.
