The conclave to elect a new pope will start in the Sistine Chapel on Wednesday afternoon (7). In all, 133 cardinals under 80 may vote.
The Vatican team prepared the chapel for the vote, with the names of all cardinals arranged at tables.
The clerics who will participate in the election began to stay in two Vatican hotels on Tuesday (6), where they will be prevented from having contact with the “outside world” while the conclave is performed.
Experts and cardinals claim that there is no consensus on who will succeed Francis as leader of the Catholic Church.
The “tear room” or “crying room” – an antechamber inside the chapel – was prepared for the next Pope seen his cassock, with identical robes of various sizes positioned in the room.
During the conclave period, the cardinals will be staying in two Vatican guest houses and will oath not contact anyone who does not participate in the vote.
