Conclave: See the schedule of the first day of the election of the next Pope

The conclave, a secret election that will elect the next Pope, will start on May 7th. It happens in the Sistine chapel, in the Vatican, and will bring together 133 cardinals voters.

The first day of the conclave has mass and prayer. Once the ceremony begins, the clerics will have to remain isolated.

See the schedule of the first day of Conclave:

  • Mass within the St. Peter’s Basilica – 10am at Rome time (05h Brasília)
  • Lunch at Santa Marta refectory
  • Prayers in the Paulina Chapel before the Conclave – 4:30 pm at Rome time (11:30 am Brasília)
  • Cardinals go out in procession for the Sistine Chapel to vote

Conclave should last a few days

Cardinals said on Tuesday that the secret election that will elect the next Pope should last “two or three days.”

The conclave has no duration limit, and the longest lasted almost three years. However, the latest votes lasted no more than three days.

Also according to the Holy See, two cardinals reported that they could not participate in the vote for health reasons.

With this, the number of voters fell to 133.
