The month of February registered an advance in industrial confidence.
The Industrial Entrepreneur Confidence Index (ICEI) rose 2.0 points, from 48.6 to 50.6 points, breaking a four-month sequence of falling confidence in the sector.
In the survey, released this Friday (10) by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), the indicator ranges from zero to 100 points, with results above 50 points denoting confidence and below, distrust.
The CNI points out, however, that, despite the recovery, the two-point advance was not enough to reverse the 14.2-point drop in the index accumulated between September 2022 and January 2023.
CNI’s Economic Analysis manager, Marcelo Azevedo, points out that, even so, the February result is important, “because it interrupted the sequence of significant falls and, more than that, it shows that the businessman has returned to show confidence”.
“If these more positive expectations are confirmed, confidence tends to strengthen. And the improvement in morale suggests a greater willingness to invest and hire.”
The ICEI is composed of the expectations index and the current conditions perception index. In February, these components had opposite performances.
The Expectations Index, which shows the perception of businessmen for the next six months in relation to the economy and the company, increased by 4.1 points, to 52.9 points.
“By crossing the 50-point dividing line, the indicator demonstrates a transition from pessimism to optimism in the industrial sector regarding the next six months, between January and February 2023”, says the survey.
Already the indicator in relation to current conditions fell 2.4 points, to 45.9 points. Standing below 50 points, the data demonstrates a perception of a stronger and more widespread worsening of the industry on the current conditions of the Brazilian economy and companies, highlights the CNI.
1,372 companies were consulted, 564 small, 482 medium and 326 large, from the 1st to the 7th of February.
