Confrontation K. Skreka-M. Katrina on the amendment on financial support for electricity

At the center of intense controversy between the Minister of Environment and Energy Costas Skrekas and the head of the PASOK-KINAL Parliamentary Group, was found the government’s amendment for the taxation of the super profits of energy companies and the extraordinary financial support for the electricity bills.

The reaction of the Minister of Environment Mr. Skrekas was intense, to the accusations of the head of the PASOK-KINAL Central Committee Mr. Katrini for communication games of the government and mockery of the citizens, with which the parliamentary representative of SYRIZA Euclides Tsakalotos also wrote.

“The amendment covers only part of the increase in the exorbitant costs paid by the citizens for electricity. Katrinis and added:

“Greece is the second most expensive country in the EU with the highest taxation in energy, but also a champion in increases. It must enter the ceiling in the wholesale sale of fuels. The questions that arise after the RAE conclusion are increasing and are serious.”

“If you really wanted to tax the resulting super profits, why did you not apply the EU algorithm as Mr. Draghi did in Italy? But you choose to communicate only reality. It turns out that ND does not stand by the citizen but by the great financial interests “concluded Mr. Katrinis.

The reaction of the Minister of Environment was immediate, calling on PASOK-KINAL “not to hide behind communication tactics and to clarify whether or not it votes in favor of the amendment that taxes 90% of the profits of energy companies, when other countries such as Italy taxes at 25% “.

“Do not hide and tell us whether or not you will support the regulation that taxes with 90% their super profits so that the citizens know your position”, stressed Mr. Skrekas.

“The moral perpetrator wants to speak too boldly about the accuracy of natural gas, the minister who before the amendment, questioned the companies’ super profits. So Mr. Skrekas can not ask us dilemmas, because he comes after a party to talk about a “a problem that he has created”, Mr. Katrinis countered.

“It is not the minister who buys gas but the private companies. Nor does he make deals and sign contracts for gas. Do not try to sell communication on such a serious issue as energy. Do not teach algorithms but answer clearly. Answer. “Will you vote for the amendment or not?” Mr. Skrekas insisted.

At this point, the parliamentary representative of SYRIZA, Euclides Tsakalotos, intervened and wrote with the criticism of Mr. Katrinis, characterizing Mr. Skrekas’s answer as “an ordinary political speech of ND”.

The amendment also came under fire from representatives of other opposition parties, who described the financial support as crumbs, while stressing that it did not address the structural problem of energy companies’ profits.

The parliamentary representative of the Hellenic Solution, Costas Hitas, described “Halima’s tales, that the super profits of the energy companies are about 500 million euros”.

For his part, ND MP Manousos Voloudakis was in favor of the amendment, but noted that he does not face the problem of expensive energy at its root.

“All is well with the amendment that taxes the surpluses of energy companies and provides for refunds to electricity bills, especially for citizens with incomes below 45,000 euros. “This system is valid throughout Europe, of course, but if the citizen perceives it as a non-social regulation, our policy will fail,” he said.
