The landing and take-off operations at Congonhas airport were released on Sunday night (9), after almost nine hours of interdiction, informed Infraero. The stoppage was due to an incident with a small plane.
According to the statement, the runway was closed at 1:32 pm, after a small aircraft had problems during landing, causing it to leave the runway and stop on the taxiway. Five people were on the aircraft and were not injured. The plane left Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná, at 12:16 pm, and landed in São Paulo around 1:30 pm.
Also according to Infraero, 73 flights were canceled departing from Congonhas airport and 67 arriving. Investigations into the cause of the accident are being conducted by the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Accidents (Cenipa), an organ of the Air Force Command.
The operation for landings and take-offs at the airport was extended until 1 am this Monday (10) – activities normally take place until 11 pm. Santos Dumont Airport has extended its opening hours until midnight on Sunday.
In a statement, the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) said that it “reinforces its commitment to the safety of Brazilian civil aviation”. The agency said it is in contact with the airlines and the airport administrator to follow up on assistance to passengers affected by the incident.
The airport, which is one of the largest in the country, has around 225 flights a day and only performs domestic flights. However, with the expectation of expansion of the Airport, after the concession auction won by the Spanish Aena in August, the National Secretary of the Civil Aviation Secretariat (SAC) of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ronei Glanzmann, went so far as to say that the internationalization of the São Paulo terminal should come out in the next few years.
The company Aena became responsible for managing the airport in August this year. The company already manages the terminals in Maceió, Recife, João Pessoa, Aracaju, Juazeiro do Norte and Campina Grande, awarded in the fifth concession round, in 2019.
