Infraero and Serpro (Federal Service for Data Processing), a technology company of the Federal Government, signed this Friday (11) a technical cooperation agreement to implement 100% digital boarding, through facial biometrics, at airports. .
The expectation is that, as of July, the airports of Congonhas, in São Paulo, and Santos Dumont, in Rio de Janeiro, will already have the technology available for passengers and crew.
Initially, the new system will be implemented at airports managed by Infraero and, later, it will be offered to private companies that manage airports.
The Embarque + Seguro platform will allow passengers and crew to board only with facial biometrics, without the need to present the air ticket and an official document with photo, as is currently the case.
According to the executive secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio, the initiative aims to facilitate and speed up boarding, in addition to ensuring more security for customers, through the use of the government’s digital database.
How will it work
First, the passenger will need to check-in online on the airline’s website, available 48 hours before the flight. On the company’s website, there will be the possibility to choose to board through the Embarque + Seguro platform.
The customer will be redirected to another page, where he must send his data and a photo of his face. This step only needs to be performed once for the data to be saved, and the passenger has the option to delete it from the platform at any time.
The system will be linked to the existing Federal Government database for digital documents with a photo, such as the digital CNH and the E-Título, the digital voter registration card.
Upon arriving at the airport that has the technology implemented, the passenger or crew will be able to go directly to the access to the boarding gates without the airline ticket and official document.
Only facial biometrics will be enough for the shipment to be released, using the system’s database.
Use of the system will not be mandatory. There will always be the possibility of boarding in the traditional way, presenting the ticket and an identity document to an airport employee.
In the initial implementation phase, only passengers over the age of 18 will be able to join the new system.
According to the president of Serpro, Gileno Barreto, the use of minors’ data is still a sensitive issue, according to the General Data Protection Law, and a system is still being studied to guarantee the safety of the boarding of minors. of age through the platform.
Currently, it is necessary for minors to travel accompanied by a guardian or with authorization signed at a notary’s office.
The Embarque + Seguro Platform was tested from October 2020 to January 2022 at seven airports in the country, with more than 6 thousand passengers and almost 200 airline professionals.
