Congress: New legislative initiative reinforces the role of Greece and Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean Strategic Corridor

A new legislative initiative in the US Congress aims to institutionally shield US interest in promoting the East-Europe-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), with particular emphasis on the Eastern Mediterranean region. Entitled “Law on the Eastern Mediterranean as a strategic gateway”, the bill tabled by Illinois Brat Schneider is turning to American interest in critical infrastructure of the IMEC countries, such as Greece, Cyprus, Israel and Israel. In this light, the bill: • Nominal refers to the importance of specific energy projects, such as the Great Sea Interconnector, the Greek-Egyptian Gregy Electrical connection, the Greek-Bulgarian pipeline and the new liquefied gas stations, which will help in the implementation of IMEC. • Provides that the US Secretary of State should explore the possibility of expanding bilateral research and development programs that apply to Israel and other countries in the region. • Calls the American […]
